How We Are Going 'Green'

The Goulding Agency, Inc. is committed to utilizing energy-efficient and energy-saving techniques, equipment and expendable resources whenever possible.

Our offices and studios are located in a 100 year old building, and although the challenges of going 'green' in an older structure are significant, there are nonetheless a number of simple ways to save energy.

Here are some of the methods and systems we have adopted to save energy:

Make any office renovation a 'green' renovation.

Regulate thermostat to minimize energy use.

Turn off lights when leaving studios for extended periods.

Adjust computer settings to automatically go into standby mode when inactive for 30 minutes.

Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents or LEDs wherever possible.  Choose the most energy-efficient lighting tool best suited to the particular application.

Invest in energy-efficient insulation and windows.

Choose Energy Star appliances and equipment.

Dress for the weather to reduce mechanical heat and cooling.

Use local businesses for products and services and buy locally-made products whenever possible.

Buy paper with the highest percentage of recycled content or paper that is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified.

Limit the use of toxics in cleaning supplies and other substances and use integrated pest management rather than pesticides.

Specify non-toxic cleaning products and paints for offices.

Recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and aluminum products in the office.

Use recycled or remanufactured laser and copier toner cartridges.

Reduce the amount of paper printed by reading, highlighting and commenting on documents on computers whenever possible.

Make two sided printing and copying standard practice.

Supply reusable kitchenware for eating and drinking.

Purchase items with the least packaging and minimize packaging in products and services.

Consider the life-cycle impact of purchasing decisions and opt for durable equipment and products with a long life span.

Find a new home for equipment and supplies that are no longer needed by business.

Encourage public transit, walking, biking or car pooling.

Use flex time and work-at-home days for employees.
